Welcome to our community

We, Forn Sidr – Asa- and Vanatru in Denmark, or Forn Sidr – Asa- og Vanetro i Danmark, are working to unite Asa- and Vanatru in the world. We are, as stated in our articles of association, a nonpolitical community, though we will react to decisions made, by states and governments, that effects our right and/or possibility to exercise our believe in the Norse gods.

If you are looking for a religious community where you can be saved, you have come to the wrong place. We offer neither the truth nor a complete finished faith in the Old Norse gods. What we do offer, is a community where you can nurture your own way of exercising your believe, and through friendships and debate find inspiration in others.

A little history

The term Asatru was invented in the 19th century by Grundtvig. The old Asatru worshipers didn’t have a name for their faith. In the shift of religion around the year 1000, the term “hinn forni siðor” – the ancient seed, or the old way, arose. That term became the name of our community when we were founded.

Forn Sidr – Asa- and Vanatru in Denmark, was founded in 1997 by 12 people and currently has more than 700 members, both children and adults, while it is estimated that there are over 3500 Asa- and Vanatru in Denmark.

Forn Sidr – Asa- and Vanatru in Denmark was recognized as a religious community by the Danish state in 2003. Forn Sidr – Asa- and Vanatru in Denmark is the community in Denmark where the belief in the pre-Christian Nordic religion and mythology is in the center.

We cooperate with other pagan and heathen communities in Scandinavia and the rest of the world. Our common interest is the right to practice pre-Christian beliefs.
