About Forn Sišr
Belief in the Nordic mythology is today called “Asatru” this term was invented in 19th century Denmark.
The word for belief in Danish is “tro” or “Tru” and as a significant number of the gods in Nordic mythology are reckoned to belong to the Asa lineage, then the term derives from belief in these Gods.
The original Asatru did not have a name for their belief. So at the time when religion changed, about 1000 A.D., the term "hinn forni siðr" turned up, that is “forn sæd” or “The old Way”.
1000 years later - the 15th of November 1997 - twelve people held the Founding general meeting of "Forn Siðr - Asa- og Vanetrosamfundet i Danmark".
That is "Forn Siðr - Asa- and Vane religious community in Denmark". – Often simply “Forn Siðr”
From then on the religious community Forn Siðr has been working to make the “forne sæd” or ‘Old Way’ a genuine alternative to other religions. As part of our work towards this goal we applied for official recognition and sanction as a religious community in Denmark on the 13thof december 1999.
It took almost four years, on the 6th of November 2003 Forn Siðr was officially recognized as a religious community in Denmark.
If you are looking for a religious community where you can be saved, then you have come to the wrong place. We have neither the ‘truth’ nor a fully defined system of beliefs. Your thoughts, questions, and ideas are just as valued as those who have been part of Forn Siðr since 1997. A good discussion, or new initiatives are always welcome.
